It is estimated that there are over 850,000 children languishing in state run institutions in Russia.
These institutions are mostly concerned with giving a child food, clothing and shelter. They do not provide the children with the education they need to survive in the real world.
Once the children leave the orphanage, they often end up in prison after joining criminal gangs or surviving on the streets among the homeless.
Experts estimate that after ten years no more than 10% of the graduates are leading a normal life, while the rest are either dead, homeless or in prison.
